THE HYMN OF THE NIGHT-SHIFT GUARDS.
With the waning of the daylight and the setting of the sun
While all others sleep so tightly, our work has just begun
With our weapons sharp and steady and our valor shining true
We can hold the night together, we can tighten every screw
When the waves of crime are rampant and our alleys are aswarm
When the hearth in every household burns and keeps the children warm
We are out there by the moonlight sending convicts to the gaol
We are justice, power, glory! we the minions of Gramail!
All the criminals do fear us and the rabble run and hide
And they never dare defy us, nay, for none have ever tried
Our arms in chainmail coated as we march on down the street
Scum doth tremble at its clanging and the stamping of our feet
With our toil that never ceases, we can put your mind at ease
That we'll lock up every bandit and we'll throw away the keys
Even though it is not easy, we put everything just right
In the murkiness, the blackness, in the darkness of the night.
